Notes from Survivalist
Farms trade speed for a stronger Castle economy

More Dark Age farms delay the click slightly but leave a healthier early-Castle food economy. Survivalist demonstrates four as a balanced 27+2 baseline.

Light Cavalry buys map control

The first mounted units are for gates, forward villagers and relic control—not a blind raid. More farms mean more Light Cavalry; fewer farms mean earlier Town Centers.

Execution

Build timeline

The first row shows new villagers, transfers and task assignments; the figures below are the totals after the step.

Dark Age
1

Place the first 6 villagers on sheep and push deer efficiently with the Scout

2

Send the next 4 villagers to wood; this route plans roughly 4 Dark Age farms

3

Bring both boars under the Town Center and prioritize efficient hunt; start farms whenever hunters cannot fit cleanly

4

Establish 4 villagers on berries, then grow the wood count to 7–9 depending on how early you want the Castle Town Centers

5

Send the final 2 Dark Age villagers to gold

6

Click Feudal Age at 27 population

2681620
Transition to Feudal
7

At about 60% of the Feudal transition, build a Barracks where the opponent cannot see it; keep scouting relics and return the Scout before the enemy reaches Feudal

26 villagers total
Feudal Age
8

Queue 2 Feudal villagers. Start the Market immediately, add the Stable, and research Double-Bit Axe when food allows

2881620
9

Click Castle Age as soon as the two Feudal buildings finish; research Horse Collar after the click if it would delay the uptime

28 villagers total
Transition to Castle
10

During the Castle transition, add farms according to the plan: more farms sustain more Scouts, fewer farms preserve wood for faster Town Centers

Castle Age
11

Produce about 6 Scouts, upgrade them to Light Cavalry on reaching Castle Age, and use them to watch the gates and stop forward villagers

12

Place a forward Monastery and produce 2 Monks; the initial 2 gold miners are enough for them if relic control is the priority

2681620
13

Add the second and third Town Centers as wood allows, then spend wood continuously on farms and houses while all Town Centers produce

14

At roughly 18 farms, decide between Castle Age pressure, stone for a castle, or continuing to about 30 farms and 70 villagers for an Imperial click

Treat the order as a stable economic backbone, not a script that overrides scouting. Idle resources, map generation and the opponent's opening should change the transition.
